For the first time in the Kitesurf World Cup history we will host the GKA Kite-Surf World Tour with its’ discipline Strapless Freestyle. This new main discipline with the world cup status from the GKA (Global Kitesports Association) will be fascinating and unique. Without any bindings or other connection to the board, the athlete will perform high jumps and spectacular tricks.

Strapless Freestyle gets more and more media attention and fans as it combines the best aspects from surfing and kitesurfing. The difference towards the Twin Tip Board is that there are no bindings on the strapless board which requires a special grip (sex wax) to help the rider to stick to the board. The strapless boards are also called directional boards. Those boards were taking over from surfing and are former known as “the mother” of all kiteboards.

You can ride the strapless board in flat water and in waves – it is a great alternative to the Twin Tip Boards and suitable for beginner and advanced rider.

During the contest the riders from all over the world need to show within seven minutes their best moves towards the international jury to advance into the next round. Judging criteria are the technique, variety and the overall impression.

The currently best Strapless Freestyle Rider are Airton Cozzolino, Matchu Lopes, Mitu Monteiro, Paulino Pereira, Jan Marcos Riveras, Ralph Boelen and Keahi de Aboitiz.
